Designed for students in automotive and mechanical engineering, this textbook deals with the topic of dynamics of rotors, with material grouped into three parts: simple rotor models, more complex rotor models and continuous shafts. The first part addresses the dynamic behaviour of the basic model for rotor analysis (Jeffcott's rotor), considering also the effects of support characteristics and internal damping. The second part considers also the mass of the bearings, showing the effects of the their characteristics on the system dynamic behaviour and stability. The third part is devoted to the analysis of a continuous shaft, with constant section and possessing distributed inertial and elasticity characteristics: the problem is faced with Euler-Bernoulli, Rayleigh and Timoshenko beam models.
